Rory Gallagher - A Taste Of Rory (1987)

Rory Gallagher was beloved by both fans and fellow musicians, not only as a gifted guitarist and songwriter, but also as a genuinely nice guy, and I'm sure we were all shocked and saddened at the news of his death in 1995, at the age of just 47. He'd been a prolific recording artist since disbanding his first group Taste just before their storming set at the Isle Of Wight festival, and had released eleven studio and three live albums before his death. These have been remastered and reissued over the years, and in most cases have had unreleased tracks added to them, so this album is a collection of those previously unheard songs. All of them are as good as anything that was officially released, and just listening to 'Persuasion' from the 'Deuce' album sessions in 1971 makes you wonder how on earth that could have been left off the album.

  1. 25 years gone today. Any chance of a reupload?
Persuasion was actually recorded in 1977 as was Rue The Day and resurfaced in Notes From San Francisco, which restored Lou Martin's piano parts which had been removed to make the track match closer to Deuce which had been recorded as a trio.

  2. This seems very strange. So 'Persuasion' was recorded in 1977, but someone removed the piano parts so that it would sound like it was recorded in 1971, just so that they could add it to the 'Deuce' re-issue as a bonus track? That makes no sense at all. Why didn't they just leave it as it was and add it to 'Photo Finish'? Anyway, alternate link now added.

  3. Yes these tracked were removed on the latest reissue of these albums Daniel Gallagher (Rory's nephew) talks about the removed bonus tracks in this interview here - http://shadowplays.com/blog/?p=2176
"Persuasion, when previously a bonus track, did come from the San Francisco Sessions, I think it was mixed without keyboards and less instrumentation to make it fit more with the Deuce three piece sound. Personally I felt, like you, that Crest Of A Wave should close the album and that Persuasion on Notes From San Francisco is how the song should be heard. I believe the other major track change is Just A Little Bit returning to Irish Tour 74 from Tattoo."

The 1999 Persuasion is a trio track with Rory scatting along to his guitar solo from the 3 minute mark; the 2012 version also has Lou's piano throughout and no obvious scatting. Strange isn't it?
    Thanks a lot 😊
