Monty Python - Hastily Cobbled Together For A Fast Buck! (1987)

As The Rutles series is going so well, and there are obviously a lot of Bonzos/Innes/Python fans out there, as a special treat I'm posting this one about 8 weeks earlier than I was planning to, as it was going to be the finale of the Rutles posts. 'Hastily Cobbled Together for a Fast Buck' is an unreleased album by Monty Python, mostly made up of outtakes from the 1980 sessions for their 'Contractual Obligation Album'. The album was compiled by producer Andre Jacquemin in 1987 but pulled from release in favour of a compilation of previously released material, 'The Final Rip Off'. A copy of the tape was originally given by Michael Palin to the band Motorhead as a gift, and from there found its way into the hands of fans, and Motorhead also feature in the final sketch, which Palin recorded for their 1986 'Rock'n'Roll' album. As with material that made the final cut of the 'Contractual Obligation Album', the outtakes include re-recordings of material which predates Monty Python, including 'Bunn, Wacket, Buzzard, Stubble and Boot', which was considered as the title of the original Python series, and dates back to John Cleese’s college days. 'Adventure' originates from 'The Frost Report', while 'At Last The 1948 Show' was plundered for 'Freelance Undertaker' and 'Memory Training'. Another sketch, 'Indian Restaurant', was revived from the TV special 'How To Irritate People', which you can watch here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoSu6AUC-7k. Despite its name, 'Accountancy Shanty' is not an early version of the song which would feature in 'The Crimson Permanent Assurance' but a re-recording of a song from 'Rutland Weekend Television', with Terry Jones performing the lead vocal originally sung by Neil Innes. The album also features material from the early drafts of 'Life Of Brian', including 'Psychopath' and 'Headmaster'. 'I've Got Two Legs' did eventually get an official release on the 1989 compilation 'Monty Python Sings' (with an added introduction from Eric Idle), and in 1997 both 'Mrs Particle and Mrs Velocity' and 'Psychopath' were featured on the Monty Python's 'The Meaning Of Life' video game, but there's still a lot of quality stuff on here which most fans won't have heard

  2. I vaguely recall hearing Monty Python singing a song on one of their albums that was a reggae song about medieval farming techniques. Would you have any idea what album that's from?

  3. Hey - you're missing a track. :) "Rainy Day In Berlin" (which I believe is on Monty Python Sings Again) is the first cut on Side 2, before "I've Got Two Legs".

    1. That shows how long I've had this tape, as according to Wiki that track is not included on most bootlegged versions and so must have been added later, but I've tracked it down and added it to the beginning of side two.

I understand you're posting this based off your archive bootleg tape, but it would be kind if someone could break this down into individual tracks...not suggesting at yourself, just saying...my dad is my original MP entry point, and I'd love to share this with him, but he will want to replay certain tracks repeatedly, and he doesn't have the patience or tech savvy to just use the rewind buttons to seek each track out when necessary LOL
