Mumm-Ra - These Things Come On B's (2007)

Mumm-Ra are an English indie rock band from Bexhill on Sea, who were formed in 2000 by bassist Niall Buckler, taking their name from Mumm-Ra the Ever-Living, the main villain of the 1980's cartoon ThunderCats. Buckler was joined by vocalist, keyboard player, and occasional guitarist James New, guitarists James Arguile and Oli Frost, and drummer Gareth Jennings, before Tommy Bowen was added in 2006 as touring keyboard and synthesizer player. They first rose to public attention when they performed at the NME Awards Indie Rock Tour alongside The Automatic, The View, and The Horrors, and were featured in the January 2007 edition of NME as one of ten bands who were "guaranteed to soundtrack" 2007. I first became aware of them when they released the 10" vinyl EP 'Black Hurts Day And The Night Rolls On', which contained some really excellent music, and so when the debut album 'These Things Move in Threes' came out in 2007 I was straight down the record shop to buy it. It became one of my favourite records of that year, and prompted me to search out their other releases, finding along the way that most of them had exclusive songs on the flips. When I had them all I ripped them to a CD and made a cover, and it's sat on my shelf for over a decade, so it's now time to share it. They never had anywhere near the success that they deserved, and even though 'She's Got You High' featured in the films '(500) Days Of Summer' and 'Angus, Thongs And Perfect Snogging', as well as 'The Inbetweeners' TV series, it was too late as they'd split up the previous year. In 2012, the band made their live return, before announcing a full comeback in 2013 with new material, and an 8 track EP titled 'Back To The Shore' released in 2014, but the old magic just wasn't there anymore. This album should give you an idea of how good they were back then, but the album is even better, so if you are taken with what you hear then do seek it out.
