Richard Thompson - ...and on guitar Vol. 2 (1982)

And now, the end is near, and so we face the final curtain....... After almost exactly a year, we come to the final posts in this series, and I think you'll agree that the it goes out in style. I was hoping to do another volume for Jerry Garcia, but about the time of his last collaboration on the first set, he stopped playing on other artist's records, just writing and producing for them. Similarly, Keith Richards only guested on four records in the 15 years after his first volume ended, so that wasn't on the cards either. The extra-curricular activities of most of the other artists in the series only covered one volume each, so for the penultimate post we have an artist who had no such qualms about spreading himself too thinly, with a decade's worth of guest appearance from the sublime Richard Thompson.

  1. PJ Thanks for the music. This is too good of a series to end. Please reconsider expanding to other artists and other instruments. If not then thanks for all the effort you have put in.

  2. These "and on guitar" comps are so great -- thanks for posting them. One technical issue, though: when I download 'em with Soulseek, the leading "." makes the resultant folder invisible on the Mac. (It took me forever to figure this out.) Also, the fact that all the "...and on guitar" comps have the same folder name means all the MP3s from different comps get dumped into the same folder, and often files with the same name (e.g. the cover jpg) get overwritten. Might I suggest that in the future you name the folder "and on guitar, Al Di Meola" and so forth? Thanks so much!

  3. I didn't realise that the MAC issue was still there after the move to Soulseek, so even though the series is due to end in a couple of week, I'll add the note that I always use to at the end of the posts. Not sure if MACs operate differently to other PCs, but as the ...guitar' folder is inside another folder with the artist's name, I wouldn't have thought that they would be merged when they are downloaded.

  4. I came across a massive discography of Richard Thompson's recordings: https://viadpok.weebly.com/richard-thompson-hokey-pokey-rar.html - with more than enough songs there for another couple of volumes.

And after that, how about "...and on bass"? Jack Bruce would be a good starting point.
