Question for Soulseek-ers

I've noticed a spike in the downloads of the Elton John album 'The World Of Regimental Sgt. Zippo', and as hardly anyone seems to leave comments on the site any more, I'm curious as to what brought that particular album to so many people's attention at the same time. Anyone?

  1. It was a Record Store Day title this past weekend, limited to 7000 copies. High profile, high demand, limited supply may explain it. Perhaps people missed out or wanted to compare and contrast?

  2. I must have missed that, but that does make sense. Thank for clearing that up.

    1. I was in my local record store last week and he asked if I wanted anything saved, and if I'd known about this I would have grabbed a copy.

  4. The official unreleased version was finally issued on Saturday as part of Record Store Day. It is vinyl, 7,000 copies and in mono. I suspect many either thought yours was the actual release or they want to compare your version to the official one.

  5. Elton John – Regimental Sgt. Zippo 2021 RSD Vinyl Rip

    From the Elton John Website:

‘Regimental Sgt. Zippo’, the Elton John debut album that never was, is available for the first time on Record Store Day, June 12.

Recorded at Dick James Studios in Central London between late 1967 and Spring 1968, Regimental Sgt. Zippo was all set to introduce Elton John to the world before it was ultimately shelved. The world would have to wait a little longer for Elton’s debut, coming in the form of 1969’s Empty Sky, and Zippo would be lost in the archives. Until now.

Six of the 12 songs were released on Jewel Box, but five are here in their finished versions for the first time and a debut release for You’ll Be Sorry To See Me Go.

My copy is an excellent pressing. I did not process it any way. A straight digital transfer (24/96) with no click repair, EQ, or anything else. And yes, it is in mono.

Ripped on my Rega RP6 turntable, NAD PP 2i Phono preamp, Audio Technica ATOC9/II MC cartridge, and a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface with Adobe Audition.

  6. Many thanks for this chance to hear the actual album. I usually look through the record store releases but didn't bother this year so didn't know this was coming out. I'm kicking myself now as the chap at my local store would always hold things for me, and I told him there was nothing I wanted this year!
