Feedback?

Looks like the feedback has dried up again, with the last actual comment on the blog, other than people who can't get Soulseek to work, and thanks from e6gman and jman (thanks for making the effort) was on 19th September. I really though that I'd get some feedback on the recent Beck 'Song Reader' post, as I spent a lot of time picking just the right bands to make it flow well, and I think it turned out brilliantly, so I thought that some Beck fans might let me know what they thought, but not a single comment in six weeks. And for the first time so far a Springsteen post has been up for over a week with nothing said about it, and I know that you love your Springsteen. I'm not fishing for thanks, but I really want to know what people think of what I post here. Do you enjoy the albums, are there any b-sides compilations that you'd like to hear from a particular artist, is there an unreleased album that I don't know about, and suggestions for the '...and on guitar' series are always welcome. There were over 150 downloads last Sunday with not a single comment left, so just let me know what you think of the posts so that I know that what I'm doing is worthwhile.

  1. I may not always say it, but I love what you do here. Not crazy about soulseek though. Alright let's try this, Bowie will officially release his album "Toy" early next year as a 3 cd set. Every download of "Toy" that I've ever seen is a single disc. Maybe you can beat them to the punch and give us the songs that will make up the other 2 discs. And again THANKS for all you do here

    1. That's a good shout, and I'm looking forward to hearing it when it comes out next year (and do you think they're making it a box set just so they can call it 'Toy Box'?) but from what I've read about the other two discs they are just remixes and acoustic versions of the songs, and the three 'bonus' tracks are already on the version I posted here some years ago, so I think I'll stick with that and enjoy the box set when it arrives.

  2. Another lurker who enjoys your work here. Particularly the ...and on guitar series. May I suggest other itinerant musician series? Hired gun vocalists, perhaps.

  3. I second what Jobe said. I appreciate what you do, and I hate having to bother you re:Soulseek. The way I get my internet just won't work.
I appreciate your efforts and I want you to know that!

  4. Let me assure you, your blog is fantastic. I enjoy most of it and see what immense work is going into it. Thanks a lot. Though I'm not that interested in this guitar series I appreciate your dilligent work. I love those dug out new groups, those stray track albums and generally most of your stuff. Please go on

  5. even though i have problems with soulseek i truly appreciate what you do. your choices and constructions are always lively and often unexpected. gather the odd one-offs of Ribot, Frith, Frisell. a batch of Robert Wyatt covers would surely be a treat, as well. for those of us troubled by soulseek, perhaps you could offer youtube playlists at least for some of your fab work.

    1. I know that Soulseek doesn't work fr everyone, although I've found it immensely helpful in tracking down hard to find music since I started using it, but the email address seems to be working fine so don't be afraid to ask for direct link using that.

  6. B-side and stray track collections are my personal favorites.

  7. All you do is greatly appreciated. I don't text much, but I hit your site every day. Not everything you post is my favorite stuff (i.e. Beck), but you have such a great variety everybody should be happy at some point. Thanks again and keep up the great stuff!

  8. Eric Johnson would be a great one for the …and on guitar series. The only guest appearance that I am aware of is on Christopher Cross’ self-titled smash album but I’d be interested to hear what he has done on other’s music.

Another that might be pretty cool to hear would be Lowell George. It would be interesting to learn of any appearances he made before, during or after Little Feat.

Marc Benno may be another cool one. Anyway, I for one thank you for all of the posts and your hard work in sharing it with us.

    1. If you'd asked me if Lowell George had ever guested on an album I would have said it was unlikely, but I've just found fourteen guest appearances, so he's on the list, as is Eric Johnson. Marc Benno played rhythm guitar of The Doors 'L. A. Woman', which I didn't know, but that was about it, so he won't be joining the others, but following his appearance on the Ry Cooder post I've played his 1970 solo album to death. Do check it out.

    2. I know I've been extremely deficient in posting comments but I can't sat enough about the great albums you have put together. I'm a huge early Little Feat fan and am greatly looking forward to seeing the ...And on Guitar Lowell George edition. Throwing out a couple of potential suggestions. Maybe a compilation of the early members of Little Feat and others albums they played on either individually of a few of them. Keep up the great work!!!

  10. I find very few things you post are my cup of tea. However, I love your site. You are not just dumping stuff, but you are curating and making excellent compilations. Thank you for all the work. and I have had no problems downloading from Soulseek.

    1. You've got me curious now, as I've posted everything from ABBA to Zappa, and including 60's pop, prog, psyche, krautrock, indie, punk, post-punk, new wave, jazz and country, so what could you be into that isn't isn't among those!

    2. Hi pj, I think I said that wrong. I have so much already (I've been collecting (albums, live tapes, CDs etc) since 1963. So there is not much I'm interested in anymore. I listen to a lot of Celtic-Rock (Fairport, Trees, Tempest, Moving Hearts, etc.) and S.F. sixties stuff (hey, I lived in the Haight during those heady days, and spent many nights at the Ballrooms.

    3. Hope you enjoyed the recent Trees post, then, as I was quite pleased with the result.

    4. Yes, the Trees post was great. Thank you very much.

  11. pj, I'm a big fan of what you do. Unfortunately, I'm one of those folks who just can't get soulseek to work on my iMac. But that's Okay, I always check on Tuesday and then a gin on Friday to see what you've put together. If it's something I like and can put together from my own library of music then I do. If I don't have it then I start looking around the net to see what I can find. On the whole, I've been very lucky and able to put together most of the post that I find interesting. Although, I've said that now, I think I'm gonna have to drop you a line and get a direct link in the next day or so for the Albini 'In Utero' as none of my usual search sites have good sounding tracks from it that I've been able to find yet.
Please be assured, there are a good number of us out here that enjoy your projects.

    1. Feel free to email for any links that you want, as that's why I set the email up in the first place. Turns out to have been one of my better ideas.

  12. I think people just find it difficult to comment under this system, I know I do. Not sure if I'm doing it right!

  13. I don't download everything, mostly only the 60's stuff. Your blog is one of the 20 I'm following daily. Hopefully that's good enough for you to continue with what you're doing. It's much appreciated

  14. In that case, here's a teaser for you...A Band Of Angels?

  15. Great blog. look at it every day. Can i suggest un released albums by candlestick park and the snapdragons. Keep up the good work.

    1. Looks Like you've got me there, as Candlestick Park only released three tracks from their albums sessions as a single, and I can't track down ant more, and the UK Snapdragons (who I guess you mean) just released the one album and a singles compilation, so do you have any info on their unreleased album?

  16. Oh, ive mentioned before but soulseek is perfect, i cant understand how people have a problem.

  17. I very much appreciate the hard work that goes into this blog. Thank you for all of it !

  18. pj just want to join the chorus of thank yous that are pouring in. I use your sight for the bio's and insights even if i don't necessarily listen to each album you create. I always get the "On Guitar Series" though and reading the comments i see it's a popular one. At the risk of sounding like a broken record i urge you to look at Bobby Keys and consider an "and on sax" album. Although there is much debate at to who the most influential guitarist might be in Rock there is little debate about the Sax. It's Keys, from Dion to Lennon to the Stones and Saturday Night Live. Thanks again.

  19. I love this site and really really appreciate the HUGE amount of work and thought that you put into every release. I have discovered a number of artists from your work and have followed up on a number of your suggestions. Thanks. Oh, and I like SoulSeek! A Danny Kirwan "...and on Guitar" would be nice :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Checked out Kirwan and he only guested on two albums in his lifetime, so afraid he won't make the series.

    1. Shame - he seems under appreciated! I count 5: 1) "Christine Perfect"; 2) Tramp (2 albums); 3) Jeremy Spencer's 1st Solo; 4) Otis Spann "The Biggest Thing Since Colossus" 5) Chris Youlden. Wikipedia also list Jo-Anne Kelly and a couple of Clifford Davis singles. Although officially he was a member of Tramp I think in spirit this was a Kelly siblings project.

      Delete
    2. Yes, I was ignoring Tramp as he was actually a band member, and that just left the four, but even if you add Kelly and Davis it's not really enough for an album.

  21. The unreleased Snapdragons album was called Mass, should have came out on Native records in Britain. The Candlestick Park album is called Re Invent The Wheel and should have come out on Midnight Records but they went out of buisness. The Waltones were one of the best band to come out in the late 80s and should have been huge.

    1. I found out a bit about the Waltones which checking these out and saw the Marl Collins went on to join The Charlatans, and that was probably why they split in the end. No sign of 'Mass' either, but keep a watch out for them both, just in case the appear somewhere.

  22. I've commented here and there. Once SoulSeek was introduced I was not able to get it to work and and didn't want to be a pest asking for links with every new post. I'd go about making the album(s) myself.

  23. I absolutely love your blog. You are my go to guy for hearing new stuff, old favourites of mine and stuff that ordinarily, I wouldn't go near at all but then I discover what great music I've been missing.

I like quite a few neo-prog bands like The Flower Kings, Mostly Autumn, and Spocks Beard who will often do covers of other folks music live. It would be great to have albums like that from those guys

  25. You have a wide selection of goodies to check out.
I am always open to music that may be lost or never heard by myself as well as new music.
Your list is a pretty good one!
    Chuck Prophet
    Green On Red
    Camper Van Beethoven

Soulseek is no good to me and you have emailed links....Brilliant.
    Thank you very much.
    Cheers
