While I appreciate the kind comments which are sometimes attached to the download requests, when they come directly to me it does mean that no-one else ever gets to see them on the blog, and a new visitor to the site who see 'No comments' on nearly every post might think that hardly anyone ever visits. I'd love to know what people think of the posts, to see if what I'm posting is what people want to hear. I have quite a few (and I mean over 100) male, female and group unreleased R&B albums by more obscure artists ready to post, but I don't know if people are enjoying the ones I've posted so far, as only the more well know artists attract the odd comment. Or what about my Hitmakers series, as I thought that was a really good idea, but only a couple have every been commented on. And as a for instance, I thought that the recent Florence + The Machine album that I posted was one of my better efforts, but only one person seemed to agree with me. One post which I did think would spark a dialogue was the recent Oasis post, but it seems that I've managed to fool nearly everyone who's listened to it, as only two people have actually spotted that it was this year's April Fool, and wasn't by Oasis at all. It was in fact a band called Breezer, who recorded a few Oasis-sounding tracks and then programmed AI to sing the lyrics in the style of Liam Gallagher. Only Smash Addams spotted that the vocals were AI-generated, although jman was close in thinking it was a tribute band, so either it was my best ever hoax, or it's just that no-one could be bothered to call me out on it. I really hope it's the first option .

I just wanted to confirm that I am among those that enjoy what you do. I visit several times a week to see what you've done. Not everything interests me, but enough does that your site is a regular stop for me. Regarding the hitmakers series, it is a good idea but I honestly am not familiar with a lot of the cover artists. I realize that is a good way to get to know new artists, but I am so far behind in listening to things I already have!
ReplyDeleteI agree completely! Whoever posted that is in my head!
DeleteI try to post after I get an opportunity to listen. Thank you again for all you do for all of us. I will post more often going forward. First stop is checking out the Oasis post.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate what you do. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI don't usually comment unless I download something, but I read almost everything that you post. The recent Boy George post about his venture into electronic music and Krishna consciousness was fascinating -- that had passed me by completely!
ReplyDeleteHello, your blog is really wonderful. I essentially download the hitmakers series, which is brilliant. and I don't think I have ever posted a comment, too lazy to do that, I guess ... my apologies. I'll try to do better in the future, and a heartfelt thank you for all you do !
ReplyDeleteLove the site - really do, but lately it has become more pop orientated rather than rock. It needs to go back to how it was
ReplyDeleteYou are a legend and your posts provide much joy. I agree with the comment about more rock though. I dig all sort of music, but miss some of the rockier sounds
ReplyDeleteI'm also more of a rock person than a pop one, but it seems that the pop albums are the ones which get cancelled more often, so they are easier to find. I've got a few good rock ones coming up so watch out for them.
DeleteI post stuff for download too and you're right - comments are few and far between. I came to terms with that long ago. As long as people are still downloading, you have to assume they are liking what they hear. I've downloaded several of your albums over the years and I'm truly grateful, but unfortunately I'm as lazy as everybody else and have commented little if at all. But I, and the thousands of people who check in here regularly to see what's new, would miss you if you weren't here. And sometimes that has to be enough!
ReplyDeleteCheers and thanks for everything.
Just one thing I've been meaning to mention for years - the brown background you use with white type makes my eyes go funny. Anyone else have the same problem?
ReplyDeleteenjoy a daily visit to your excellent blog, haven't downloaded anything in quite a while.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your blog immensely, as it gives so many - often not any more available - tracks and not released ones. I love all kinds of music pop , rock or whatever. Thanks ghk
ReplyDeleteI check your blog frequently because your offerings are so unique. However, soulseek is a real soulsuck for me, and I have difficulty downloading.
ReplyDeletei look at your site everyday and have downloaded many of your albums. The recent shed 7 one is excellent. Thankyou.
ReplyDeleteRegular visitor and downloader here! I love your blog and hope to comment more often from now on. And you made me curious about the Oasis post, so I will check that one out now.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I really don't like Oasis, so I skipped that post completely. I enjoyed the HitMakers posts, especially the earlier ones and once again, thank you for all the wonderful music and the effort involved
ReplyDeletedaily visitor
ReplyDeleteDaily visitor with a bad habit of not commenting or saying thank you. Your work is outstanding. My lack of response is on me.
ReplyDeleteI love the Hitmakers series. Keep up the great work :)
ReplyDeleteGuilty as charged. My apologies for too often taking your efforts for granted. Your blog has become part of my daily morning ritual. Yes, I too gravitate towards the 'rockier' posts as well as the HitMakers series. Thanks for all you do and for shepherding this community of music lovers.
ReplyDeleteI read your comments more than I download as band histories are fascinating. The collections I have downloaded are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteAs a frequent contributor you know I love a chunk of your stuff. I dug the oasis but have had it since it came out (as AISIS) and caused a buzz as the first really super full album AI done set that was actually almost better than the original stuff! But you have lost me at time with the R&B and old 50's and 60's stuff I've never heard of. I do miss your spins on the classic rock artists. But knowing the work you put in on any project you do... it is all greatly appreciated!!
ReplyDeleteI can understand the frustration at times when you post the non obvious tracks, a-sides and b-sides you hunt town and do not get a lot of feedback. I too especially enjoy your writeups, very informative and well written. I will try to be more responsive.
ReplyDeleteMy God you fooled me with that Oasis thing. Good job
ReplyDeleteYour site is a fantastic resource and you are a fount of knowledge on everything you post. The mainstream pop music you’ve featured quite a bit in recent times is of little to no interest to me, but that’s just my personal preference, of course. You’ll be able to tell by download figures if it interests many others. Given the vast majority of commercially released box sets are of musicians and bands from the rock end of the music spectrum, I have long realised that fans of mainstream pop are really just interested in the hits and do not care about demos, outtakes, alternative versions etc. But I do, and sites such as yours which highlight obscurities that are otherwise difficult or impossible to find, are absolute treasure troves. I have posted here before, but I’m glad you asked for more comments because it’s good to be able to show my appreciation of your work again. Long may you run.
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying your Hitmakers series, among others. Any chance of a vol,ume 2 of Donovan (Marianne Faithfull, Mary Chapin Carpenter, even Herman's Hermits), plus posts covering the Zombies, and (please!) David Ackles?
ReplyDeleteDavid Ackles would have been ideal, but only five of his songs have ever been covered. A second Donovan is on the cards, but just need to decide which album to choose. Regarding The Zombies, it's more for singer/songwriters than bands, otherwise The Beatles would have been one of the first choices.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for what you do. I personally enjoy the older and rockier stuff and enjoy reading the history of the artists and music. The obscurities included on these albums is great! Enjoy the hitmakers series too.
ReplyDeleteI called you out on the fake Oasis album yesterday ^^ but just realized by reading this post only now that it was a prank. I'm new here but I can already tell that you seem to be very eclectic so I think everything you share will find its audience.
