I think it's about time for another episode of the Mike Solof radio show 'Off The Beatle Track', and this one looks at the influence of the Fab Four on hip-hop and rap in the 80's and 90's. The most obvious example, of course, is the classic 'Grey Album' from Dangermouse (on the site if you want it), but whereas that was a mash-up of Beatles tunes and lyrics from Jay-Z, other hip-hop and rap artists had been sampling the Beatles on their tracks for a while, and Mike digs them out and plays them for your education and entertainment.
01 Episode 276 - HipHoppin' Beatles
This was an interesting choice for a next post. This was probably the most hated show I ever produced not because of the content...which i had so much fun putting together but because of the theme... BEATLES, RAP AND HIP HOP??? Not in this universe! But still, I'm glad i put it together...hope you have fun listening to it!! -Mike
ReplyDeleteThis also had the honor of having one of my strangest intro in the 11 years I produced the show... so strange.
ReplyDeleteit was so many years ago that this was aired...but i'm remembering that my producer called me mid airing and said he never saw the numbers of listeners drop as rapidly as it did during the first airing of this show. It dropped over 75% during the first segment. That just goes to prove 2 things. First, my audience hated hip hop and secondly, just like the beatles...I was very ahead of my time...GO ME!
