Pentangle - Anniversary (1992)

The Pentangle compilation album 'Anniversary' was released in 1992, and was intended to celebrate the British folk-jazz combo's milestone legacy. It came out on the German record label Hypertension Music, but was withdrawn almost immediately, and although neither the band nor the label have ever published an official press release detailing the removal, the withdrawal of 'Anniversary' is widely understood in collector communities to be due to licensing issues and unauthorized track clearances. Because the band members frequently performed in varied iterations and solo configurations throughout the late 1980's and early 1990's, unauthorized live packages frequently ran into sharp legal opposition from the artists or their primary publishing representation, forcing the CD to be pulled from store shelves almost instantly. Because of its abrupt withdrawal, the physical disc has become a rare collector's item sought out on secondary music marketplaces. As the album contains recordings from Pentangle itself, plus others from various combinations of Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Jacqui McShee, Danny Thompson and Peter Kirtley, as well as solo tracks from Jansch and Kirtley, this is in no way a "best of" the group, but is certainly a collection a rare recordings which any fan would love to hear.
