Neil Young - One Man Workin' (1988)

Following on from my two recent posts of imagined albums that Neil Young could have released just before 1989's return-to-rock 'Freedom' in 1989, after his dalliance with The Bluenotes as a backing band, Mike Solof pondered what 'This Note's For You' might have sounded like if it only had a rock band behind him. He's therefore done what I did to the live tracks that I used, and removed the horn section from the studio recordings for the album, leaving a less bluesy version of the songs. To be honest, I'd never bothered with 'This Note's For You' as I never fancied the concept, for much the same reason that I've never heard 'Everybody's Rockin'', as I like my Young in a hard rock format, so for me, listening to this is like having a brand new Neil Young rock album. Fans who already know 'This Note's For You' might find it stranger to listen to, as they'll be expecting the horns to come in now and then, and where there would otherwise have been a gap in the music I've brought the organ more to the fore, so I'm sure they'll be intrigued enough to give it at least one listen. Mike decided to call it 'One Man Workin', as the other nine can now take the day off, so I made him a cover based on the 'Ten Men Workin' single sleeve.
