A second Blind Faith album has always been notoriously difficult to piece together, as although the band spent hours in the studio recording, they only ended up with a couple of actual songs and a load of rambling instrumental jams. One of these was actually released as a single as a promotional item by Island Records, announcing the fact that they were moving their offices. Titled 'Change Of Address From 23 June 1969', the one-sided promo featured an instrumental jam by the group which was not mentioned on the label, (the only other label info is the new address, phone number, and new cable address of Island), and it's thought that around 500 copies of the single were pressed, mostly sent to UK disc jockeys and other music industry insiders. The other completed songs were two versions of Sammy Myers' 'Sleeping In The Ground', and an instrumental entitled 'Time Winds'. To make up a possible second album I've taken four of the long jam sessions and edited them down to include the best five to six minute section of each, and titled them around the band's name. By adding in an electric version of 'Can't Find My Way Back Home', a great version of 'Under My Thumb' from the Hyde Park concert, and a couple of tracks recorded for a proposed Ric Grech solo album, we end up with a 55 minute disc of Blind Faith music - admittedly not one of my best reconstructions due to the lack of finished material, but you still get to hear some fine playing from Clapton, Winwood, Grech and Baker, (and George Harrison on 'Exchange And Mart' and 'Spending All My Days'), so it's worth a listen at the very least.
Track listing
01 Sleeping In The Ground
02 Blind Blues
03 Spending All My Days
04 Under My Thumb
05 Time Winds
06 Rose-Tinted Glasses
07 Can't Find My Way Home
08 Change Of Address
09 Exchange And Mart
10 Blues For The Faithful
11 Sleeping In The Ground (Slow Version)
12 Believe In The Blues
You could have also used their version of "Under My Thumb" -- it's recorded live, but at least it's another track
ReplyDeleteYeah, other than adding Under My Thumb, I really like the 2nd album for Blind Faith you created. I've always loved the first album and the Hyde Park concert!
DeleteYou could also include "Exchange and Mart" and "Spending All My Days." Both songs appear as bonus tracks on some versions of the Blind Faith album. Both songs also prominently feature George Harrison on guitar too! You can find them on YouTube.
ReplyDeleteI had 'Exchange And Mart' and 'Spending All My Days' on the Hyde Park bootleg but forgot about them when compiling this. Although both songs were recorded for an unreleased Ric Grech solo album, the general opinion is that most of Blind Faith were on them so I've decided to slot them in here, along with 'Under My Thumb' (which was a much better quality recording than I remembered), even though it makes that album a bit longer than I'd wanted, but it needed a couple more vocal tracks to counterbalance all the instrumentals. I was going to remove one of the jams to get the length down but I couldn't choose one so I've just re-edited 'Blind Blues', which I felt was always just a bit too long, leaving a cool 55-minute album.
ReplyDeleteCould you update the link? Thanks!
DeleteThank you.
ReplyDeleteShowing my age now, but I was 15 when I saw Blind faith in Hyde Park. Could have been my first gig I think. Afterwards went to a record shop and bought a 7" single of Out Demons Out by the Edgar Broughton Band - they played in Cambridge the next day. Happy daze... Thank you for bringing back the memories. Plus I see on ebay the Blind Faith 7" single going for 100/250/495 quid. WOW!! Michael.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove what you've done with the second Blind Faith album. Especially the 15-minute 'Acoustic Jam' whittled down to the 4-minute 'Rose Tinted Glasses'.
